So I'm painting last night, right, and I'm kinda feelin' it, kinda not.... and so I throw a movie on Netflix called "Little Ashes". It's about Salvador Dali and Federico Garcia and how their relationship unfolds as they begin their creative careers. I was kind of distracted by what I was working on, but the character who played Salvador had a fantastic line that I just fell in love with, and I just had to put it here.
"If I'm going to be anything more than average, if anyone is going to remember me, then I need to go further in everything... in art, in life, and everything that they think is real. Morality, immorality, good, bad, I, we, have to smash that to pieces and we have to go beyond that. We have to be brave.... No limit!"
I love this. Now I just have to figure out to to have as big of an impact as Salvador Dali and Frida Kahlo and Picasso with out getting myself a couple of misdemeanors. (Page 347.) No misdemeanors until I can live off of my art. I still need a job. :)
And, a newfound love that I've just rediscovered: Sally Mann.
Some of my favorites are here, here, here, and here.
So beautiful! Apparently she lives in Lexington, Virginia. I wonder if she wants to have lunch sometime... that could be fun. But I think I'd have to be invited.
